James Miller, NZX Chairman, was appointed to the Board in August 2010. James is a Director of Mighty River Power, ACC and Auckland International Airport. He was previously on the ABN AMRO Securities Board, INFINZ Board, and Financial Reporting Standards Board. James brings 14 years’ direct experience in the New Zealand capital markets with Craigs Investment Partners, and prior to that ABN AMRO and Barclays de Zoete Wedd. James is a qualified chartered accountant and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand, a Certified Securities Analyst Professional and an accredited Director of the Institute of Directors in NZ Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Otago University and is a graduate of The Advanced Management Program, Harvard Business School (USA).

James is a member of the Human Resources and Remuneration Committee, and an ex officio member of the Audit and Risk Committee. He is a member of the Board of wholly owned NZX subsidiary New Zealand Clearing and Depository Corporation Limited.

Neil Paviour-Smith

Neil is Managing Director of Forsyth Barr and a director of various related companies. He is also a director of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand and a Councillor of Victoria University of Wellington.

He has more than 25 years’ experience in the New Zealand securities industry including prior funds management roles with National Mutual Funds Management and Westpac Investment Management.

Neil is an NZX Advisor and an Authorised Financial Adviser, a Fellow of the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ Inc (INFINZ) and was Chairman of the NZ Society of Investment Analysts 1999-2001. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant, an accredited Master Stockbroker of the Stockbrokers Association of Australia and a member of the Institute of Directors, Governance New Zealand and the CFA Institute. Neil is Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee and a member of the Human Resources and Remuneration Committee.

Alison Gerry

Alison Gerry became an NZX Director in February 2012. Alison has more than 20 years experience working for both corporates and for financial institutions in Auckland, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo & London in trading, finance and risk roles. Alison was also a Visiting Fellow at Macquarie University in Sydney for 12 years until 2011. From 2007 Alison has been a professional company director and and holds governance positions in the infrastructure and finance sector. Alison has a first class honours degree in Management Studies from Waikato University and a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University.

Alison is a member of the Regulatory Governance Committee, and a member of the Board of wholly owned NZX subsidiary New Zealand Clearing and Depository Corporation Limited.

Dame Therese Walsh

Dame Therese Walsh joined the Board in February 2013. She is a professional director and is currently Deputy Chair of TVNZ, a Director of ASB Bank Limited, a Trustee of Wellington Regional Stadium, and is a Victoria University Council Member. She also sits on a number of Government panels and Chairs the International Development Selection Panel for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Previously she was Head of NZ for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, and Chief Operating Officer for Rugby New Zealand 2011. She has been a Director of NZ Cricket and Save the Children NZ, a member of the New Zealand Rugby Union executive team, and held a senior role with KPMG.

Dame Therese is a qualified chartered accountant, and a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of New Zealand. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University.

She is a member of NZX’s Audit and Risk Committee, the Regulatory Governance Committee, and Chair of the Conflicts Committee.

Jon Macdonald

BE(HONS)

Jon joined the Board in May 2013. Jon is CEO of NZX/ASX listed Trade Me Group Limited. Jon has a background in engineering and technology. He joined Trade Me in 2003 and was appointed CEO in 2008. Prior to joining Trade Me, Jon worked in London for HSBC Investment Bank in a variety of technical and management positions, and has worked for Deloitte Consulting with a focus on telecommunications and financial services. He is a Trustee of NZ Technology Training Charitable Trust.

Jon has a Bachelor of Engineering (HONS) from the University of Canterbury.

Jon is Chair of the Human Resources and Remuneration Committee, and a member of the Conflicts Committee and the Regulatory Governance Committee.

Patrick Strange

BE(HONS), PHD

Dr Patrick Strange joined the Board in May 2015. Patrick has spent 30 years working as a senior executive and Director in both private and listed companies, including more than six years as Chief Executive of Transpower, where he oversaw Transpower’s $3.8 billion of essential investment in the National Grid.

Patrick holds a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Auckland. He spent 13 years in Europe and North America, working in a succession of senior management roles, including Chief Executive roles in computer companies major systems to large manufacturing, utility and aerospace enterprises.

Patrick is Chair of Chorus, a Director of Mighty River Power, Auckland International Airport and of the joint board of Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy, Australia.

Tim was appointed CEO of NZX in May 2012. Prior to joining NZX, Tim was a partner at Oliver Wyman in Singapore, and previously was a partner with the Boston Consulting Group in Asia and Australia. Tim holds an MBA in Strategy and Finance from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Computer Science and Business Administration from Victoria University of Wellington.

Bevan joined NZX in December 2012. He has extensive financial experience in both the corporate and accounting sectors, previously working as CFO for Acurity Health Group Limited. Prior to that Bevan held a number of senior finance roles at Telecom New Zealand (now Spark), having started his career in the audit division of global accounting firm KPMG. Bevan is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration, Honours (first class) from Victoria University of Wellington.

Mandy Simpson

Chief Operating Officer

Mandy joined NZX in 2012 with more than 15 years of experience in finance and management roles. Mandy trained as an accountant with Deloitte in London, specialising in financial investigation work. She then spent four years with the London Stock Exchange initially in market surveillance, before managing the news service operations. In 2006 Mandy moved to Wellington where she has held senior roles at the State Services Commission and Fronde. Mandy holds an MA in Law from Cambridge University.

Mark Peterson

Head of Markets

Mark joined NZX in May 2015. He has 25 years’ experience in financial services covering the capital markets, private wealth, institutional and retail banking, and insurance. Mark previously worked as the Managing Principal of ANZ Securities, and before that held senior management roles with First NZ Capital, ANZ and The National Bank of NZ. Mark holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington, has completed executive training at Mt Eliza business school.

Joost van Amelsfort

Head of Market Supervision

Joost joined NZX in August 2014. He has considerable experience providing complex legal advice to capital markets participants, operating both in New Zealand and overseas. Joost previously worked at Simpson Grierson and prior to that he was at Linklaters LLP, London and Dubai. Joost’s areas of expertise include corporate governance, equity and debt capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and commercial contracts, and public private partnerships. He holds an LLB / BA from Victoria University in Wellington.

Aaron Jenkins

Head of Funds Management

Aaron joined NZX in January 2014. He has substantial experience across the financial markets and agricultural sectors. He was previously Fonterra’s General Manager Trading Among Farmers where he designed and implemented the globally unique TAF ecosystem. Prior to this, he held senior technology and business roles with E*Trade, one of Australia’s largest non-bank financial services businesses, and spent more than 13 years with ANZ Bank in Australia, NZ, Asia and the United Kingdom.

Hamish Macdonald

Head of Policy and Legal

Hamish joined NZX in July 2013 with extensive experience in financial regulation and policy development work including having worked for five years at the UK Listing Authority, the body that regulates issuers listed on the London Stock Exchange. Before joining NZX, Hamish held legal roles in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, most recently as legal counsel with a superannuation fund in Melbourne. Hamish holds an LLB and BCA (accounting major) from Victoria University of Wellington and is a barrister and solicitor.

Kristin Brandon

Kristin joined NZX in 2007. Kristin has significant legal experience working at Chapman Tripp Wellington and Dechert LLP London where she specialised in company and securities law, including advising in relation to capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and acting for fund managers. Prior to joining NZX, Kristin was Assistant Company Secretary at Telecom New Zealand Limited (now Spark). Kristin holds an LLB (HONS) and a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University of Wellington and is both a barrister and solicitor.

David Godfrey

Chief Information Officer

David joined NZX in 2009. He has more than 25 years of management experience in IT development - including product based, enterprise level business critical in house and consumer based - and "24x7" operations for a FTSE 100 Property company, a major UK newspaper, and in telecommunications, IT Consulting and software houses. David holds an MSc with Distinction in Software Systems and a BA in Economics and Politics.

Kathryn Jaggard

Head of Derivatives

Kathryn joined NZX in 2008 following 10 years in London where she held several senior business development roles in the global exchange traded derivatives market. Kathryn has also worked in Singapore where she helped drive derivatives growth from this region. Over the past 18 years Kathryn has developed an intimate knowledge of the global derivatives markets, a multitude of new products, and assisted in driving liquidity to these products. Kathryn holds tertiary qualifications in both business and broadcasting.

Shane Dinnan

Head of Energy Markets

Shane joined NZX in February 2014. He has a strong background in energy market design, operations and policy in New Zealand, Asia, Europe and Africa. Prior to this, he was a co-owner and senior executive at electricity market operator M-co, which NZX acquired in 2009. Shane has also led several market development projects internationally. He holds tertiary qualifications in business and banking.

Tony Leggett

Head of Agri

Tony has a broad knowledge of agriculture across Australasia and internationally. He co-built Feilding-based Country-Wide Publications Limited from a single newspaper in 1997 to a multi-title business with 30 full-time staff when it became NZX Agri in 2009. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Agriculture) from Lincoln University and worked as a stock agent for seven years until 1987 when he moved into journalism.

Nathan Cattle

Head of NZX Australia

Nathan joined NZX in April 2013, bringing with him extensive experience in trading and risk management in Australia’s grain markets. Prior to working at NZX Nathan was a commodity trader and consultant specialising in price risk management to Australian agribusiness. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) with honours (first class), a Bachelor of Economics, and graduate diploma of Applied Finance.

Michael Chamberlain

SuperLife Co-Founder

Michael joined NZX in 2015 following NZX’s acquisition of superannuation manager SuperLife Limited, which he co-founded in 1998. Michael is a Fellow of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries and Institute of Actuaries in London and holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Auckland. Before SuperLife, Michael worked in the actuarial, employee benefits and investment consulting industry, and remains a Principal of MCA NZ Limited.

Paul Baldwin

Paul joined NZX in 2015 following NZX’s acquisition of wealth platform Apteryx, which Paul has led since 2011. Paul previously worked for ASB leading its investment and wrap platform business and prior to that was a corporate trustee, and Head of Retail Custodial Operations at Trustee Executors. Paul holds an accounting qualification and a Masters in Business Administration from Massey University.
